Research

During my time at TAMUC I have enjoyed focused research in the area of Educational Leadership with a concentration on the various leadership aspects associated with administration in public education. Topics of interest include: second language acquisition and Hispanics in Higher Education, closing achievement gaps, best teaching practices, teacher/principal evaluations and the overlap between public education leadership and higher education. I am intrigued by the unique needs and challenges faced to adequately offer quality services to special populations of students.

It is essential to maintain active involvement in the area of scholarly study, as research results should be aligned to and embedded into course content.  The fusion of practitioner-based knowledge with research based study results offers our students a well-rounded perspective of educational leadership. I am pleased to be able to offer my students my expertise as a practitioner as well as a researcher in the field.

Publications were a collaborative effort and were authored with various colleagues as well as doctoral graduates. Further, some research studies included active involvement from district leaders in public education. I find it beneficial to maintain positive working relationships with our regional public school districts.  The partnership allows a mutual sharing of research related resources.

Professional presentations further exemplify the alignment between research and professional expertise. I enjoyed many opportunities to present to the Master’s and Doctoral student body as well as conference presentations and local school district professional development sessions.  My research is further exemplified through various peer reviewed publications, chapter compilations, and professional presentations. Specifically, publications include 18 published articles, 5 published book chapters, 3 articles submitted for publication and 26 professional presentations.
